THE YOLK

Editorial Design, Silkscreen/Riso printing,
Art Direction, Branding

What came first, the chicken or the egg? Neither—it was The Yolk!

The Yolk is a newspaper with a distinctive “eggy” twist, was initially conceived as a stealth campaign for a graduation catalog. Throughout its 4 (#5 on the way!) issues it has grown into a dynamic platform that highlights emerging student talent while forging connections between designers and the broader local community.
Every issue is completely handmade, from cutting the paper to size, to printing it, to cutting to folding and binding.
Issue #1 “Eggesis” (2024) Focused around the birth of the publication, featuring students at the AKI design school in Enschede, as well as eggy fun stories.

Issue #4 “Pecking” (2025) Is centred around themes of food, home and traditions. What is the power of the lunch break? How are seasonal migrations and meals related? How does it feel to eat traditional food when away from home?
